June 6, 2017 Is The First Annual Global Pest Awareness Day
Pest control is not only an issue for us here in Australia. Across the globe it is a major concern. Mosquitoes, fleas, mice and rats combine to kill millions of people every single year by spreading diseases such as malaria, zika virus, yellow fever, dengue fever, typhus, plague, hantavirus and leptospirosis.
Infestations of pests such as locusts, army worms and grasshoppers can wipe out food crops leading to food shortages and even starvation for many more millions of people.
June 6th, 2017 has been designated as the first annual Global Pest Awareness Day in an effort to raise awareness all over the world for the ways in which professional pest managers provide protection for food, homes, and the environment against pests of all shapes and sizes.
The initiative was first proposed by the Chinese Pest Control Association and is supported by the National Pest Management Association (US), The Federation of Asian and Oceania Pest Managers’ Association, the Confederation of European Pest Management Associations and the World Health Organisation.
Below is a short video put together by the various organisations to support and promote the goals of the day.
