Winter Weather Sends Mice and Rats Indoors

Keep your house rodent-free this winter

Looking forward to spending some time indoors where it’s nice and warm this winter? Rodents are too, and they could be looking at your home or place of business!

Mice and rats can fit through the smallest of openings and when temperatures plummet they will be looking for any way inside to nest.

Rodents pose a double threat because not only can they cause structural damage to buildings, they can also spread disease.

Fleas, lice and ticks can also be brought into your home by rodents which present their own health problems.

To help prevent rodents from entering your home this winter try the following tips:

  • Try and find any cracks or gaps on the outside of the building and seal them up tight.
  • Install weather strips at the bottom of all exterior doors.
  • Trim back any long branches from plants that hang over your home.
  • Rodents are looking for food as well as warmth so keep your home clean, especially the kitchen.
  • Store all food, including pet food, and garbage in tightly sealed containers.
  • Don’t leave dishes in the sink or pet food out overnight.

Taking care of these simple tasks will improve your chances of staying rodent free this winter. However, if you’re seeing droppings, tracks, chew marks on furniture or plastic or smelling musky odours you might already have a problem.

If you think this is the case the best course of action is to simply call Protectant Pest Management. Our highly trained pest technicians will sort out the problem for you right away.
